In Transit

Spending hours on planes, trains, and automobiles can be much more enjoyable if you have the right items with you. I always pack a small carry-on/day bag with a few of my essential comfort and entertainment items and I suggest you do to! These are some of the items I use the most, but I won’t take them all on every trip. It’s important to adjust your carry-on bag each time you travel.

Comfort

Neck pillows – I love my neck pillow for sleeping on long-haul flights. I’ve tried several different types, but this memory foam pillow with an integrated strap has been my favourite. It’s a little bulky, but it comes with stuff sack to make it a little easier to pack.

Portable hanging footrest – This has become my other favourite accessory for long-haul flights. Being a shorter person, I find it much more comfortable having my feet elevated above the floor. And it should also improve blood circulation which is always a good thing when you’re sitting for long periods of time.

Entertainment

Sony Noise Cancelling Headphones – Big, bulky, noise cancelling headphones aren’t the most space-friendly thing to pack in your carry on bag, but they do such an amazing job of cutting out the noise of the plane that I don’t think I could go back to earbuds! It also means you can listen to music or movies at a much lower volume which is much better for your ear drums.

Kindle Paperwhite – I enjoy reading when I’m travelling, but books can take up so much space and add quite a bit of weight. Kindles and Kobos are great because you can literally fit thousands of books on them, and yet they’re so slim and lightweight. If you leave them in airplane mode, the battery will last for weeks!

Accessories

Anker power bank – I’ve been using this battery pack for over 3 years now and it has come in handy so many times. It’s a little on the large side, but having the extra battery capacity has been a life saver in many situations where I didn’t have access to an electrical outlet and I was still able to charge my phone and my cameras.

Collapsable water bottle – It’s a great idea to bring along your own water bottle to save on single use plastic cups and bottles. This one is perfect for travel since it collapses down and takes up hardly any space in your bag.
