10 Uncommon Canadian Adventures

10uncommon

Now I’ll be the first to admit it, I have yet to explore a lot of the wonderful places my country has to offer. Which is exactly why I am writing this piece, since I am on a mission to explore more parts of Canada. Now, I could go the traditional route and hit up all the bucket list items of the Canada-to-do list, but Expedia Canada wanted to know a fun and clever list of 10 Uncommon, not-quite bucket list Canadian adventures you can have. Now these are not far out, off the beaten track items, but more like items that you might overlook or not necessarily think of when you imagine Canada. So, here are my 10 Uncommon Canadian Adventures.

Dinosaur Expeditions in Drumheller, Alberta

Canada is not a particular old country (only 148 years since founded), however it is home to some old things, like the dinosaurs that once roamed the valleys of Drumheller and Dinosaur Provincial Park. Here in the badlands you can dig for real dinosaur fossils plus learn a lot about dinosaurs.

Iceberg Viewing off the coast of Newfoundland

When you think of Canada, you most likely think of snow. Icebergs maybe not so much. But, if you’re willing to brave the cold, Iceberg Alley this is one of the best places in the world to view these wanders of nature.

Icewine in the Okanagan, British Columbia

French, Italian, Spanish, when you talk wine, these are what come to mind. But actually, BC produces a very unique type of wine, Icewine; a sweet dessert wine that’s made from frozen grapes picked off the vine.

One of the greatest marital disasters happen just off the coast of Nova Scotia: The Titanic. At the Fairview Lawn Cemetery you can pay tribute to the many victims as they are actually buried  there.

Hot Springs in Pemberton, British Columbia

If you care for a dip in natural hot pools next to a cold river. Look no farther with two options to choose from here, the Sloquet Hot Springs and the Keyhole Hot Springs. These hot springs are still wild and undeveloped so you’re in for the authentic wilderness adventure.

Barkerville Historic Town & Park, British Columbia

Take a trip back in time and learn about the Canadian West’s past during the Gold Rush era at a  old ghost mining town turned historic park. Pan for gold, yes real gold, plus take some of those olde tyme photos everyone loves!

Singing Sands Beach at Prince Edward Island

Which literally sings due to a phenomenon caused by the squeezing of the sands while you walk. It’s definitely not something you would first think of when you imagining Canadian Adventures, however, ranked as one of the best beaches in Canada (plus most unique) I’d say it makes the list.

Salt Spring Island, British Columbia

Known locally as a “hippie heaven”, it’s a mecca for artists, artisans, musicians with plenty of organic farmers serving up some of the best fruits and vegetable BC has to offer. Plus, some wicked island views.
